Mountains Turning

Sidney, Leslie, Maurice and the other chairmembers sit in a nightclub with their entourage. Maurice and Leslie are really out of place. Sid lavishly drinks a glass of Chivas and picks from the seafood buffet. Maurice addresses the chair members as their advisor. “The chairman is being precautious with things being what it is.”

“With all due respect for Richie— I know it ain’t my place” Sid addresses Maurice. “If he would just nominate somebody, this would make things a lot easier.”

Maurice looks at Sid with disdain. “The insolence…” Sid sucks the meat out of a lobster leg with a smacking sound. He addresses the other chair members. “We’re all sitting here now in peace because of, well… Richie. But should the atmosphere change…” Sid smacks.

A cutting silence fills the room as music plays in the background. Everybody looks at each other. Afraid to speak their mind for what it will cause— for how others will judge them for it. “It is a delicate situation” says Maurice. “Let’s bring a toast… To Richie!”

“Bottoms up”. The chair members swig back their drinks.
